A Look Back at Tyus Jones' Summer League Success
We are in the midst of the 2018 NBA Las Vegas Summer League and you are seeing the next up and coming stars of the National Basketball Association.
The top picks are always being watched but there are not always the players who become the best. Take for instance Tyus Jones, yes he was a 5-star high school All-American out of Apple Valley High School who won the National Championship at Duke his first year in college and captured the Final Four MVP in the process, but he went late first round in the 2016 NBA draft and was not expected to do much in the pros. How can such an incredible high school and college player, who has won everything, not be expected to produce on the biggest stage? After being acquired via trade by his hometown team, Jones was ready to prove the doubters wrong.
In the 2016 Summer League he posted incredible numbers while playing great team basketball. He averaged 19.4 points, 6.3 assists, 4 rebounds, 1.3 steals per game and shot 43.7% from the field. This brought the Timberwolves to the Championship game where they eventually lost to the Chicago Bulls. However not before Jones was crowned Most Valuable Player of the entire NBA Summer League. Quite an accomplishment for a Minnesota kid.
