Minnesota United FC Season Underway!
The 2018 MLS season kicked off on March 3rd as the defending champion Toronto FC opened their new campaign. The 2nd year of existence for the young club out of Minneapolis is poised to prove to everyone that they can compete.
Opening the year at San Jose, the Loons looked lethal late. Scoring two quick goals to bring the game within one showed they can provide offense in a hurry. However losing 3-2 the Loons had some positives to bring home.
Their second game had them playing at Orlando. A solid showing from the entire team secured theie first win of the 2018 season by a score of 2-1. If it were not for a weak foul call in the box that led to Orlando's only goal, the loons would have had their first clean sheet of the year as well. Not all good news however, the team’s best midfielder and one of the most talented players on the pitch suffered a season ending knee injury. That loss is sure to affect Minnesota United but perhaps it will open the door for one of our younger players impress.
The Minnesota United home opener is Saturday March 17th against the Chicago Fire. Be sure to support your Loons and come out to TCF Bank Stadium! If you cannot make it, there is a backup plan. The game will be airing live on Fox Sports North, check it out there if you cannot get a ticket.
