Thursday Night Football: Deshaun Watson Edition
Last Thursday Night brought us the first look at Thursday Night Football. This was the first edition of what is now an every week deal. The Cincinnati Bengals played host to the Houston Texans. The final score was 13-9 in Houston's favor as a newcomer of extreme hype started his first career game.
Deshaun Watson, many know him as the top quarterback in the country from the National Champions Clemson Tigers last season. He was a highly touted talent entering the NFL draft as he was taken 12th overall by the Texans. He started this year as the backup behind Tom Savage, but that did not last long. He was put in week 1 about half way through the game after Savage could not get anything going. He scored on his first NFL drive throwing a touchdown pass to fellow Clemson alum DeAndre Hopkins. The Texans ended up losing to the Jaguars but he showed signs that had fans excited everywhere. On Thursday he played pretty good considering it the ambience of the whole situation. He went 15/24 passing with 124 yards and 67 yards rushing with a touchdown. The game was highlighted by Watson's 49 yard touchdown run at the end of the half. He showed smarts, speed and elusiveness on a spectacular scamper for six.
The night was often shrouded with offensive miscues and defensive stands but it made for an interesting game none the less. Look for more highlight reel plays from Watson this season as he will only improve from here on out.
