New Kid on the Block: Mike Hughes Edition
With the 30th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings selected Mike Hughes, cornerback out of Central Florida. An explosive return man and solid cover corner with upside, Rick Spielman, Mike Zimmer took their chance on the defensive back.

Mike Hughes was born on February 11, 1997 in New Bern, North Carolina. He is 5'10 and 189 lbs and was the 3rd ranked corner out of high school. He also played quarterback where he led is team to a state championship his senior year. Mike initially signed with the University of North Carolina but ran into some trouble his first year there. He and a teammate were charged with misdemeanor assault charge. After being suspended at UNC, Hughes transferred to Garden City Community College to start fresh. After a year of juco ball he transferred to UCF where they went undefeated and beat highly ranked Auburn in the Peach Bowl. One of the highlights of the entire college football year happened when Mike Hughes ran a 95 yard kickoff back for a touchdown with a minute left beat rival South Florida for a right in the conference championship. Hughes chose to forgo his senior year and declared for the NFL draft shortly after the season ended and that is where the Vikings got him.
On July 19th, 2018 Mike Hughes signed his first professional contract for 4 years and a whopping $9.87 million. Along with a $5.256 million dollar signing bonus Mike fulfilled his promise to his mother and bought her a new house (picture below).
